Claudia Keyian has a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from Westminster College, with a major in piano, minors in both organ and voice and a concentration in choral conducting. As a freshman, Claudia tied for the highest score on the musical aptitude test given to all incoming students. A Dean’s List student, Claudia was awarded numerous academic and music scholarships at Westminster, including the prestigious Presser Award for being the outstanding senior music major. A student of Sandra Chenevey, she was the winner of the concerto competition during her sophomore year, and was also a finalist in the Butler Symphony Young Artists’ Competition that same year.
Prior to becoming the Music Director here, Claudia was Youth Music Director at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Newburyport, MA for 13 years. In this capacity, she served as director of the Cherub Choir, the Young Church Choir and the Teen Choir. Claudia is also the former Music Director of the First Congregational Church of Kittery at Kittery Point, Maine, where she directed the adult choir and provided organ and piano music for Sunday morning worship services.
Additionally, Claudia has studied piano with Lisa Papili of the Manhattan School of Music, Eda Schlyam of the Longy School of Music and Randall Hodgkinson of the Boston Chamber Music Society. She has done graduate work in the areas of piano performance, piano pedagogy and early childhood music education.
Claudia has an active performing schedule. In addition to providing piano accompaniment for singers and choral groups, Claudia is in high demand as a guest organist and choir director at local churches. In April of 2005, Claudia had the great honor of being chosen to perform a piano recital at the 90th anniversary commemoration of the Armenian Martyrs’ Day. More recently, Claudia has served as vocal accompanist for the students of Vianna Pilkington for their recital in the spring of 2007 and 2009, and played the piano for the senior recital of dramatic soprano Meghan Schraeder.
