Welcome to the UU Church of Haverhill |

The Universalist Unitarian Church of Haverhill is a place to grow spiritually and find new friends and a supporting community. There is an excitement here that is contagious and visible at our weekly worship service, church school and our many social events and educational programs. If you visit us you will experience a welcoming congregation where race, class, religious and sexual orientation are not barriers to our communion with one another. Among us, you will find a diversity of religious perspectives. Some of us have discovered spiritual strength by following the life of Jesus, others practice Buddhism or religious humanism, still others embrace their Jewish heritage or walk the way of earth-centered religions. Such diversity may seem a distraction from the concept of "one true religion"; we, however, appreciate the vast diversity of human religious experiences, the inherent dignity and worth of the human being, and the sacred spirit which unites all life. We have many beliefs in common. Foremost among these is serving and helping others so that we can leave the world better for our having lived. To this end, we provide a meaningful environment and religious curriculum for our children. Our church school reflects our philosophy that each child needs both structure and freedom in order to develop to their greatest potential. Another way we fulfill our responsibility to the future is to be actively involved in the larger community and world. The congregation has a rich history of service and advocacy. In the past three years we have focused on the basics: food and shelter. For the past two years our Cornucopia Project has grown nearly two acres of sweet corn for area pantries; we provide Community Meals for those in need two to three Saturdays a month; with Catholic Charities we have launched a major expansion of the Open Hand Pantry in our church basement; with other community groups we took an active role in forming the Haverhill Hunger Roundtable and, most recently, the Haverhill Interfaith Housing Partnership. Many individuals and families have joined our fellowship and found here warmth, friendship and a community of kindred spirits interested in personal and social transformation. We hope you will visit us soon.
