Religious Education

Our children’s Religious Education program explores the history and principles of Unitarian Universalism and the world’s many faiths and spiritual practices.

Our 7 principles invite us to learn the skills of right relationship with each other, our community and our environment.

The 7 UU Principles in Kid Speak are:
1. Each person is important.
2. Be kind in all you do.
3. We’re free to learn together.
4. We search for what is true.
5. All people need a voice.
6. We seek to build a fair and peaceful world.
7. We care for Earth’s lifeboat.

Our program celebrates the natural world and honors the mystical.

We invite our children to experience themselves as spiritual beings and encourage them to discover their own personal truths.

Through story telling, art and music we study ritual celebrations, Gods & Goddesses, honored men and women, symbols and sacred texts.

We acknowledge lessons learned from science and our collective histories.

We embrace mystery and are respectful of other faiths and belief systems.

We acknowledge our roles as citizens and participate in community service and/or advocate for those in need.

We learn to live together.

Our classes are for children 2 and up.

Nursery care is available for infants and toddlers.

We also use Teaching Tolerance, a multi-age, multi-media curriculum that promotes acceptance of differences and encourages individuality. This curriculum (or related material) is used on the third Sunday of each month in a multi-age group setting and is a continuous curriculum to be used each year

The 4th Sunday of the month will be a Kid Spirit Sunday when children and youth meet for group worship upstairs. In months when a fifth Sunday occurs, we will encourage our RE families to attend Intergenerational Worship in the sanctuary.

“Every adult needs a child to teach; it's how the adults learn.”~ Frank A Clark

Our Director of Religious Education (DRE) is Sally Liebermann. She will be the first to tell you that RE is fun, inspiring and can be part of your spiritual journey in many different ways! We are a cooperative program and suggest that parents and families take lead roles in the spiritual development of their children.

What sounds fun to you? Do you like to tell stories? Do you have a skill or hobby that you’d like to share? Do you like “The Simpsons”? Do you enjoy being in the moment with toddlers? Would you like to make music with kids? Please see Sally for more information about our program and volunteer opportunities.
